So uh. I've been moving all my playlists off Spotify and onto YouTube (and downloading the songs ~totally legally~ to have on my computer as well), and largely they're private because they're all OC playlists. HOWEVER. I do have a playlist for KNPS which I felt like people might get a kick out of. So here it is. Several of these were added when I moved the playlist off Spotify since a lot of them aren't available on Spotify, particularly video game soundtracks.
Track list (and reasoning) below the cut.
Move Along by the All-American Rejects I don't think I need to explain this one, actually.
School by Toby Fox (from Deltarune) Also kind of self-explanatory. This is music that I associate with Gali and Lewa's class, specifically.
A New Hero by Nathan Furst (from Mask of Light) I love the MoL soundtrack best of all the Bionicle movie soundtracks, so I had to include some of the songs from it here.
Old Friends (Bookends Theme) by Simon and Garfunkel Technically a harp/violin cover but shhh. Old Friends is a Turaga Metru song if ever there was one. This version is just very pretty :3
Wonderland Round 3 by Griffin McElroy (from The Adventure Zone) I'm gonna be honest I don't have an excuse for this one it just slaps.
As Above, So Below by Essenger and Cryoshell A very recent addition to the playlist. I don't think I need to explain this one either, actually.
Birdhouse in Your Soul by They Might Be Giants Takua song. Could not explain why if I tried.
Dreamer by Supertramp Vakama song, also Takua song. It's about someone with their head in the clouds, which applies to both of them in different (and similar) ways.
Friday I'm in Love by The Cure Matau song. Less in that it represents who he is as a character and more in that he's a classic rock guy who loves wandering into the office singing and whistling incredibly on the nose rock tunes.
Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon and Garfunkel Nokama song. Also a Gali song. I mean listen to it, come on.
Rivers in the Desert by Lyn (from Persona 5) Boss music baby!!
Running Up That Hill by Kate Bush Music that Gali listens to when she's sad.
Toa Reunited and Death of Jaller by Nathan Furst (from Mask of Light) This is on here because of the "Toa Reunited" part I swear. Anyway one of my favourite songs on the MoL OST.
Samurai Heart (Some Like it Hot!!) by SPYAIR (from Gintama) Full disclosure I've never watched Gintama. However. Kohatu song.
Starlight Brigade by TWRP I mean. It's a song about saving the world. "I'd gladly give my life for one night as a justice acolyte" is also a banger line ngl
Supernatural Superserious by R.E.M. I associate this with Kopaka for some reason. Couldn't tell you why.
The Prophet's Song by Queen The most Vakama song ever. Written specifically for him everyone say thank you Freddie <3
The Touch by Stan Bush LISTEN.
The Last Desperate Struggle by Masakazu Sugimori (from Ghost Trick) This is the song I had on repeat while writing the "Lewa gets possessed" chapter.
Running in the 90s by Max Coveri Pohatu unironically listens almost exclusively to this kind of music. The man loves him some Eurobeat.
Time in a Bottle by Jim Croce Whenuju song. Was their first dance at their wedding. The lyrics are literally perfect for them. "I've looked around enough to know/you're the one I want to go through time with" IT'S THEM.
Unite (Redux) by Ron Wasserman (from Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers) YEAH A POWER RANGERS SONG WHAT ABOUT IT. First of all it's literally called Unite. Secondly Power Rangers and Bionicle are like brothers to me. Third and most important it fucks.
A Town Called Hometown by Toby Fox (from Deltarune) Sweet, quaint small town vibes (which is the point lmao). Fitting given that KNPS takes place in a sweet, quaint small town.
Wake Up, Get Up, Get Out There by Lyn (from Persona 5) I associate this with school because it used to be on the playlist I used when I got ready for work in the mornings. It's also a sentiment I can see Gali and Pohatu getting behind.
Wonder by Naughty Boy ft. Emelie Sande I think I first found this song on a Wonder Woman playlist lmao. It's basically about like, personal strength and stuff. Good song.
Working for the Weekend by Loverboy Another song Matau likes to whistle on Fridays.
Beach Chant by Justin Luchter (from MNOLG) Iconic early Bionicle music. Had to include it.
Lost One's Weeping by Afterglow Yes this is a cover of a Vocaloid song and yes it's from a fucking. Band anime or whatever. I like it. Also it's the school trauma song so on the school playlist it goes.
Lucretia by Griffin McElroy (from The Adventure Zone) Look, Lucretia and Nokama are very different people, but there's enough overlap (older female characters who struggle with keeping heavy secrets from the protagonists) that I feel pretty good putting her theme on here. Also Nokama would be the world's biggest Lucretia defender, we all know this in our hearts
SAVE the World by Toby Fox (from Undertale) YES another Toby Fox song. Anyway boss fight music hell yeah
The End by Justin Luchter (from MNOLG) Again, iconic early Bionicle music, really captures the feeling that some great victory has been achieved, at least for now.
Everytime We Touch by Cascada Tahu/Gali song. LOOK. It's a Tahu/Gali song okay
Village Bridge (with buildup) by Junichi Masuda (from Pokemon Black and White) Hands down one of the best tracks from the best Pokemon game. Again very small town vibes.
May add more to it, who knows.
#bionicle#ficblogging#a normal playlist by someone with normal taste in music#i made this post instead of showering#listening to it on shuffle is so funny bc it's like. running up that hill > old friends > beach chant > YOU GOT THE TOUCH!!!!#fuckin jumpscared by my own playlist that i made#knps

I went to watch both events for the Gintama Ato no Matsuri!!
The afternoon event via live-viewing in the cinemas
The evening event inside the actual venue, Ryogoku Kokugikan~
IT WAS HONESTLY THE BEST DAY OF MY LIFE!!!
(2023 is also my 15th year as a Gintama fan so what better way to celebrate than attend the matsuri!!!!)
Hihi we used the penlights inside the live-viewing theater too.. hey most of the ppl in our row were using it too okayyy😂😂 It was so much fun!!!
ofc nothing beats the experience of watching it LIVE inside Ryogoku~🥹🥹
3Z Anime announced!!!! Everyone was like majiiiii????
They kindly asked us not to post any spoilers on social media until the evening event ends, so I kept mum about it XD
Upon arriving at the Ryogoku, my friends and I took pics of our matching Sonjuku ita-bags!! 🥹🥹 (Mine is the Takasugi one hehehe)
So many ppl!!
Then I went to pickup my preordered goods, which I'll post later!! XD
Outside Ryogoku~
Inside Ryogoku~
With my sibling wearing our matsuri shirts and sukajan~
We won the tickets during the Advance reservation lottery so we got pretty good seats~ マス席 in the first floor and facing the front! My friends were seated on a different row T^T
On to the event~ (A lot of screaming and crying XD)
I already knew most of what was gonna happen since I watched the afternoon event so I thought my hype would be dampened??? But the emotions just kept flowing!!!!!!!!!! 😭😭😭 (Tho ngl I wished they unveiled the 3z anime in the night event instead... I was expecting another bomb to drop actually hahahah xD)
The atmosphere inside Ryogoku... everyone's so passionate!!! You could feel the love not only from the fans but also from the seiyuu and bands as well!!! Aaaa I love Gintama and it's fandommm 🥹🥹💞💞
Never watched One Piece but the hype inside the venue and Kitadani's energy was so high it made me sing along too, idk how I managed to do it cuz I barely know the song😂😂 they went all out with this even parodying the OP of One Piece and the seiyuu mimicking the strawhat pose😂
Then the 生アフレコ went a trip down the memory lane🥹🥹 Makes me wanna rewatch everything all over again 😭
I started getting emotional when ChicoHani started singing ヒカリ証明論 (Kiheitai tapos Bansai death scene talaga..mashaket po mga mamshie...😭)
And サクラ舞う暁に..it's my fave ChicoHani song okayyy Chico shouting Matsuri ja Matsuri jaaa🌸🌸🌸 So fun to sing along with the crowd!!! Almost everyone switched their lights to pink!! one brain cell~ XD
Their surprise was the Samurai Heart cover!!! 😭😭😭
ChicoHani's gntmと出会わせてくれた song, Pride Kakumei!!! When the Honeyworks guitarist shouted "saikou da saikou" waaaa the hype!!!!! Crowd went crazy!!
Otsu-chan so cute I didn't expect the fox at all (Gintama always subverts expectations so true even for events like these x3)
Toshi always up for anything riding the Thousand Sunny Sadaharu-Eli ship hahahah And Sakaguchi-san!!! 🥹🥹
Then 生アフレコ again~!! XDDD
Surprise was KUROKO's special appearance (with Suzuken as Murasakibara and Nakai-san as Imayoshi!! Chiba-san's side comment: なんかイチャイチャする 😂😂😂😂)
SuzuKen funny he said he could hear Kensho Ono from the Kuroko mascot hahahah
plus GINCHAAAN (for the evening event)
It was so adorable how Sakaguchi-san took a pic of Gin-san and Sugita on stage... He really loves Gintama, ne (The whole cast loves Gintama!! that alone makes it so special)
Sugita's side comment: he wants Oguri Shun to join too hahahaha
DOES so cool!! Everyone switched their lights to red when DOES started their set list~
It's also no secret that Wataru-san loves Gintama sm, he mentions it in his SNS accts frequently🥹🥹 ワタルさんかっこ良かった...有難う! Crowd shouting Wataruuuu Bravo!!! XD
The SPYAIR covers gosh 😭😭😭 I almost cried listening to the Wadachi cover 😭😭😭 (I did cry when I rewatched it through Abema haha 😭😭😭)
From the band's message in the end, it was apparent that SPYAIR really wanted to attend but alas they have no vocalist yet 😭😭😭
The highlight of the event for me was Yama-chan's surprise appearance 🥹🥹 LITERAL CHILLSSSSS I mean... THE KOICHI YAMADERA...
Apparently, Yama-chan never attended events like these and Ato Matsuri was the first one. That alone just made me.....🥹🥹🥹😭😭
is Gintama that special he agreed to make an appearance 🥹🥹😭😭
Or did Higuchi-san (producer) really splurge their budget on him ahahahah
We were joking that they must have spent most of the special guest budget on Yama-chan that's prolly why no other guests appeared 😂
And gosh that man has range.... I also learned that Yama-chan voiced Donald Duck from Kingdom Hearts..!!! That's why his animal and nature dubs (from the special Matsuri manga) are on point 😂😂😂😂
He can sing too (He sang JPN version of Prince Ali and Circle of Life) and had a duet with Hirano Aya (Nobume VA) for the Yakuza game 😭
Koyasu-san was a no-show as usual (I had high hopes since he attended the Isekai Oji-san seiyuu event at Anime Japan last year) He had a voice message tho, saying his ponpon was in pain (basically he had a stomachache) 😂😂
And then there's Sugita's closing message 😭😭😭
That even though gntm has ended 4 years ago, he hasn't forgotten about Gintama
That he'll be Sakata Gintoki until he dies..no, even if he dies 😭😭😭GURL I GOT SO EMOTIONAL!!!
Then he says "Chinko"!! how very Gintoki!!!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
And finally the Ginpachi-sensei anime which will be part of a series of projects for Gintama's 20th anniversary (which will last until 2026!!!) I am so excited 😭😭😭😭
AAAAAAA MY HEART AND WALLET ARE READY
As Suzuken said 終わらないね銀魂ァァ
Thank you so much Ryogoku~ See you again in the next Gintama Matsuri!!!

Another thing I will miss about the Gintama anime is the music full-stop. The Gintama Final soundtrack was sublime, but it’s hard to accept we aren’t going to get any new soundtracks in the future. All of the openings and endings are a given, total bops, everything.
Everything by DOES? DONTEN, KNOW KNOW KNOW? When you hear that guitar riff, you know you’re in for something awesome.
Everything by Spyair? Nostalgia overload, tears streaming down your face.
It’s not just the openings and endings though, but even the OSTs. You just hear that one familiar tune and are immediately reminded of Mitsuba or Isaburo. Koko wa Samurai no Kuni da is just one big shot to the kokoro. I’ve developed a pavlovian response that any time I hear that one Gintama OST, tears start gathering already.

gintama (like actually my only source of serotonin these days - even just rewatching short clips of it and seeing fanarts of the characters fills me with lots of joy omg)
concerts (i haven't gone to one ever since the pandemic but i've been waiting for one of my fav bands to come near me so i can waste my money on them in exchange for two hours of euphoria)
seeing my mutuals just lose their minds about their latest hyperfixations on my dash lmao like most of the time idk what they're talking about but it's so fun to see bc you can just feel their excitement which is very cute

I think it's a very unpopular opinion but I don't understand the hype that Gingama the Final got. Sure! The humor is funny as always, the animation is great and the music is just as great as you'd expect from Does and Spyair, but the plot kinda falls flat to me. Obviously it's not a movie only problem, and it's even worse in the manga, but it's like they set aside everything that made Gintama great so far and turned it into a more generic shounen anime.
Gintoki and the yorozuya are such great characters because they are not the usual main characters group with the "destined" main character, the helpless love interest and the rival, but in the last movie they completely discarded Kagura and Shinpachi to only have Shinsuke and have that last fight (it was sad as hell and good but still not quite what I expected from Gintama and not in a good way) with him without showing the kids. At all. They are walking Yoshida around? And we had a relatively large among of screentime for Tae who didn't do much, except acting like a textbook love interest (Tae?? Of all people?? Anyways). While we had so many interesting ways to fit the kids into this. Utsuru even mentioned Gin's life being "void", the obvious parallel between the school and the Odd Jobs, even just the fact that they were right there and there was no stretch to do to take Shinpachi and Kagura to the fight, while having a wall collapsing on the kids & Tae and Gin just moving on felt...weird, at best. To his credit, in the manga they yell back that they're okay iirc, but in the movie Gintoki just watches back once and that's it.
Also Gin, since the previous part of the arc/semi-finals had this massive guilt complex about resurrecting Yoshida because he knew he was betraying everyone! He didn't show his face to Shinpachi on the bridge, despite knowing that he had put his life on hold waiting for Gintoki to be back, he took all that weird harassment from the girls while pretending to be Shinsuke, etc because he felt guilty about it, but knew he had to help his master. And the kids really really were waiting for him, especially Shinpachi and when they were reunited...it didn't really matter anymore. He doesn't apologise for trying to resurrect a person that he knows has little chances to be good, who tried to murder them more than once, who almost destroyed the world and even killed their dog. And he doesn't apologise for not telling them he was back. And at first it was okay because it was the kind of relationship they had, but after a while just seemed like Gintoki couldn't give a fuck about them, and it felt like such a one sided admiration from their side. Especially when Gintoki walked off to fight Shinsuke and left them doing what? Maybe dealing with a collapsed wall, if they weren't crushed.
And of course the worst treatment was given to Zura like usual. The man who, all the way back to the beginning (literally before volume 5) said shit like "you cannot carry everything alone, I'll help you", who promised to kill Shinsuke in the Benizakura arc, in the same arc promised to stop Gin if he was to stray away from the right path (like you know resurrect they guy who almost destroyed Edo twice), that promised in the Farewell Shinsengumi Arc (If memory serves) that he would not let Gintoki kill Yoshida again, this man just fell down the stairs and the plot moved on. He was the only one of Yoshida students to not be involved in the last fight, and barely in the plot. He also made a point to say he was going to stop them from resurrecting Yoshida and then he just...disappeared.
But overall I am just disappointed that the characters I liked and watched Gintama for were completely forgotten. The Odd Jobs are the most blatant example, but the Shinsengumi had maybe 5 lines out of the 3 of them. Tsukuyo, Kyubei, Sarutobi etc were basically a mob. Zura was done extremely dirty. And all of this only to focus on Shinsuke and Utsuro who were marginal at best. Even Shinsuke, who was a big deal since the Benizakura arc, kind of blended into the Harusame and was not a more prominent villain than the pirates as a whole or Kamui (who appeared? Blink and you'll miss him).
And more especially, the main conflict of Gintama was the humans vs bad aliens. From Shinpachi's introduction, Gintoki's backstory (yes, Oboro and the Shogunate were the main focus, but were only just puppets), the whole premise of the show, up to being the reason Kisuke was a villain at all. And the rest of the cast even acknowledges this and makes a collective speech about rising up to the aliens when they head to the terminal. But then it was all Utsuro? Quite literally all Utsuro, since everyone who took his blood was a puppet acting on his will, and Utsuro was ultimately just human. And I think it could have been a could twist, had it not be for the fact that they had forgotten literally everything else about the show, so it was hard to believe this was a planned twist.
My disappointment is great with this movie, but at least I have the second movie and the Silver Soul arc to cheer me up.
#gintama the final#gintama#gintoki sakata#takasugi shinsuke#yoshida shouyou#yorozuya#kagura#shimura shinpachi#shimura tae#katsura kotarou#gintama silver soul arc

A few days ago I found out that Ike left Spyair and as a Gintama/Anime fan, this shocked me. He left because of his health, so I just hope he gets better.
Now, this was in March and it's August already, so how did I not know about this? Well, I didn't really believe this could happen. And there were no news on their YouTube channel. There were a few articles on Crunchyroll, but I don't use Crunchyroll so it went right past me.
But why now? The answer is simple: A few days ago the group uploaded a video to their YouTube channel, explaining that they were looking for new vocalists to "restart Spyair".
...
I don't know how to feel about this. One one hand, it's nice to see that they won't give up on making music. One the other (stronger) hand: What the F*ck?
I believe that Ike had one of the most recognizable voices in J-Rock and half of their songs probably wouldn't hit as hard as they do, if there was anyone else singing them (Thinking specifically about all their Gintama songs.) So them kinda throwing him to the side and looking for a new vocalist feels like a betrayal to me. Especially looking at what the new vocalist has to compete with.
It also feels really weird, because they were in a band together for 12 years and after all that time just looking for a new vocalist irks me. Like, there had to be some form of relationship between the members. They seemed to get along great. I mean, why else would they be in a group together for over 10 years?
Anyways, TLDR: If they really get a new vocalist to also sing the old songs, it'll just feel like a cover band. No one can do it like Ike. Instead of "restarting" Spyair, they should just form a new band or at least change the name.
#spyair#disclaimer: just my opinion#j rock#gintama#maybe this is just me being petty#but honestly#idgaf#to compare to a fictional K-Pop scenario#this would be like if Felix left Stray Kids and JYP was like 'eh have a new trainee as a member'#anyways#it's sadly jamming out to Samurai Heart hours now

Coming here at 4am to scream about how gintama is an experience and a journey and so much more than just a comedy anime with jokes about dicks and how almost every song it has is a punch to the guts once you have the whole story and how “I wanna be…” by Spyair is inevitably a song I will always come back to because nothing, and I mean absolutely nothing, has ever touched me in such an absurdly profound way and the amount of love - unexpected, difficult, weird yet genuine - pours from it in ways you can’t deny yourself a chance to get better as well and isn’t that a gift worth those 360 episodes because really, what else has ever came close to this
#d0 stuff#d0 smashes the keyboard#I love gintama so much#I do have some takes about it but like#overall#this is a series that extends a hand to you and asks ‘do you think you’re alone in your struggles?’#and the answer is always no#yes. problems can be personal and oftentimes people won’t fully understand you but it’s not a reason to give up trying to connect#it’s also a series that grabs you by the shoulders and gives you a good shake and asks ‘do you think you don’t deserve kindness??’#and no matter what past you have it says ‘you can get better. It will get better one day. You can only make a change while alive. So live’

So ever since I watched Gintama: the Final, I’ve been listening to Spyair’s closing theme on loop because of fucking course I am. And the more I listen to it, the more I love how it contrasts with the previous song Spyair wrote for this franchise.
See, “I Wanna Be” wasn’t just written to be the final Gintama OP, it was written to be the final Gintama song. The production team was expecting to finish the story during their TV run, and they designed the OPs and EDs to reflect that fact. “I Wanna Be” is designed to be the franchise’s swan song, and it sounds the part. A huge, sweeping ballad with big, emotional swells of music and epic choral backing vocals. It’s graceful and grand and melancholic, the sound of grand farewell packaged into a single song.
Which naturally makes it all the more hilarious when that didn’t end up being the end, a fact that (of course) the show itself took some time to make fun of. But that begs the question: how do you top that? Now we suddenly need a new theme song to be the actual final Gintama melody, but you’re never gonna write something that so perfectly captures the feeling of saying goodbye to a grand adventure as “I Wanna Be.” So what do you do? How do you come up with an ending song to surpass The Ultimate Ending Song?
Simple: instead of writing another song about ending, you write a song about a new beginning.
“Wadachi” is fucking joyous. The bright violins, the bouncy tempo, the lead vocalist’s voice almost cheering the lyrics about walking forever side by side with the people you love... if “I Wanna Be” was the soundtrack of Gintoki waving goodbye as he walks into the distance alone, “Wadachi” is the soundtrack of Gintoki sprinting into the future, all his friends and loved ones by his side. It’s an anthem to a life that goes on long after the curtain falls, a life lived joyfully and messily and earnestly. And it sends you home aglow in happiness, knowing that even though our journey with them is over, the lives of the Odd Jobs crew have only just begun.
TLDR, just as “I Wanna Be” perfectly captures the sound of finishing a long adventure, “Wadachi” perfectly captures the sound of stepping past that end point and looking forward to the rest of your life that’s still waiting for you. It’s the perfect song for the end of Gintama precisely because it’s not trying to sound like the end; it’s trying to sound like a new beginning. I can’t think of a better way to bring closure to fifteen years worth of tears, laughter, and joy.
So long, Odd Jobs. May your story live on forever.

Rules: Tag people who you want to get to know or catch up with!
Last song: I’ve been stuck between Everything Goes On by Porter Robinson and Sakuramitsutsuki by SPYAIR nonstop for the past month or so. Been trying to get into Gintama and came across that song as one of its OPs and I’m IN LOVE.
Last movie: I legit watched the Given movie and Umibe no Etranger simultaneously, no joke. I love those two movies to death and I listen to their songs/OSTs all the time.
Currently reading: Lots and lots of manga! Jujutsu Kaisen, Berserk, One Piece, Chainsaw Man, Blue Lock. And I just most recently started Kaijuu 8-gou and binged it; I really can’t wait for its anime adaptation!!
